About Houston
ExxonMobil’s state-of-the-art campus north of Houston serves as home to its Upstream, Product Solutions and Low Carbon Solutions businesses and their associated service groups. The facility opened in 2014 and accommodates more than 10,000 employees and visitors.

What Role You Will Play In Our Team
As an Optimization Scientist, you will apply deep technical expertise and strong business understanding to design, implement, and scale advanced optimization solutions across domains such as supply chain, commercial operations, and trading. In this role, you will act as a trusted subject‑matter expert in mathematical optimization, developing innovative algorithms, experimenting with novel solution approaches, and transforming complex business challenges into high‑value optimization models.
What You Will Do
- Design and implement scalable mathematical optimization models to address complex business challenges.
- Partner with stakeholders to identify high-impact opportunities and align solutions with business objectives.
- Lead the integration of optimization technologies into broader systems, collaborating with engineering and IT teams.
- Drive innovation by exploring and applying state-of-the-art optimization techniques and tools.
About You
Job Requirements:
- Ph.D. in Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
- 2+ years of experience (not including school time) in designing and deploying mathematical optimization models.
- Expertise in linear, mixed-integer programming, optimization under uncertainty (stochastic/robust optimization), algorithm development including decomposition for large-scale optimization.
- Strong programming skills in Python or similar languages, with experience using solvers like Gurobi/CPLEX.
- Understanding of cloud-based architecture solutions for large-scale optimization.
- Strong communication skills with ability to communicate technical details to non-technical business partners
- Strong strategic mindset with the ability to drive large-scale initiatives.
- Proven ability to influence and engage with cross-functional teams and leadership.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Experience:
- Proven experience in developing and deploying optimization based solutions
- Recognized as an industry expert with a track record of publications or presentations in optimization and related fields.
- Business acumen in supply chain management, commercial, and trading in oil and gas or a similar business is preferred.
- Experience in applying optimization within supply chain, energy, or operational research domains.
- Knowledge of integrating optimization models with AI/ML techniques.
- Proven ability to build external networks and partnerships to drive innovation and collaboration.
- Strong focus on both technical rigor and business outcomes.
