Level: Director | Reports to: CTOWhat’s the role: Estuary powers “right-time” data replication and transform. We’re formalizing a Platform (foundational services) vs Applications (SaaS, integrations, transformation UX, AI enablement) structure and hiring a Head of Applications Engineering to lead strategy, people, delivery, and operations as we transition to durable, high-ownership pods.What you’ll do:- Optimize project delivery: build processes to align customers, partners, marketing, operations, and product vision into a focused pipeline- Maintain SLOs: triage/respond to application issues; uphold “fix bugs first” culture- Manage and nurture: establish engineering management culture; organize and hire across experience levels- Partner tightly: collaborate with founders and cross-functional leads to set roadmap, scope, expectations, sequencing, and risk surfacing- Operational excellence: champion quality standards, risk minimization, and dev process improvements- Hiring engine: own candidate lifecycle (sourcing, screening, interviews, scoring, onboarding)- Be a player‑coach: review designs, prototype, and contribute code with sound judgment on do vs delegateQualifications:- 8–12+ years in platform engineering; 3–5+ years leading teams; managed 8–20 engineers across 2–4 pods- Proven leadership introducing structure and excellence across multiple teams (preferably B2B)- Track record hiring/leveling senior ICs/tech leads; manager‑of‑managers a plus- Communicate nuanced technical concepts to varied audiences; incident response leadership experience- Interest in data‑intensive apps and platformsHow we work: High autonomy; remote‑first, Slack‑centric, async‑friendly; global team with east‑coast hoursCompensation & leveling: Market‑competitive cash + equity.
